ABOUT

OUR VISION

To love Portland as Jesus loves us.

OUR Name

Jesus launched a counterculture that was profoundly compelling and radically confrontational. His life and mission challenged both the religious and the irreligious.

We believe many Christians today have lost the plot and the original spirit of the ancient Jesus movement. We long to be a counterculture both to the broader church and to the mainstream world.

Our Focus

Welcome skeptics

Churches sometimes stifle questions and doubts. This alienates and isolates, creating suspicion. We want to be a place where skeptics are expected, respected, and challenged.

Our aim is to receive objections graciously and respond thoughtfully, explaining why we believe in Jesus and that he is captivatingly beautiful.

Build deep friendships

The modern world is a lonely one. Isolation damages both our mental and physical health.

That Bible teaches that God is love and that Jesus calls us friends. We believe that meaningful relationships are the purpose of life. Creating space for fun, authentic, supportive friendships is at the heart of everything we do.

Care for the poor

The command to do justice and show mercy to the vulnerable flows through the scripture from cover to cover. There are also many warnings about the tendency to neglect and minimize this imperative. Jesus said what we do to the marginalized is what we do unto him.

We envision a movement of people investing time, resources, and attention in the needy; seeking wholeness in the broken places. This must be central, not peripheral.

Our Beliefs

We are recipients of an ancient and global faith spanning from the first century near east, down through the millennia, and across every continent.

There are different expressions and traditions but one core message. We didn’t make it up and it’s not ours to change, but it is ours to believe, to enjoy, and to share:

Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy universal Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.

Amen.

Nicene Creed

I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, universal and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
